Jenny is one of my close childhood friends. I still remember her phone number. Her parents renovated their kitchen when we were in middle school. Her parents were often not home. One night while hanging out Jenny cooked our group of girl friends spaghetti and meatballs.

This is my parent’s bedroom. The king size bed was my dad’s growing up. They brought it in through the front window. They’ve never replaced it,  “it’s too much trouble.” They sleep with a box fan in the summer because they don’t have ac.

My grandmother renovated this attic space bedroom for my mom. The handyman neighbor helped with the linoleum and electricity but my grandmother stapled  the mint wallboard and sewed the curtains. My mom loved horses and in high school sewed her own clothes.

We had dinner every Sunday night at my grandma’s house in her large wood paneled finished basement. There were usually 20 of my aunts, uncles, and cousins. My grandma always served fried chicken, homemade noodles, potato Spuds from a box, and canned corn and green beans. We ate on fold out tables and the folding chairs came from a funeral home.

My parent’s dining room is painted grass green.  It’s a tiny room only used for meals on holidays. My mom uses the table and china closet to stack her paperwork, photo albums, and other clutter.
